[Contents] The Savanna was released in Japan in 1971 as a car exclusively equipped with a rotary engine (RE). Unlike a normal reciprocating engine that generates power through the up and down movement of pistons, the RE generates power through the rotational movement of irregular pistons called rice ball-shaped rotors, and the driving feel is often likened to being "like a motor."
There are currently no RE-equipped vehicles on the market, but as Mazda is the only company to have fully commercialized and put the engine into practical use, many car enthusiasts consider it to be part of Mazda's identity.
Hot Wheels has taken the race-spec RX-3 as its motif, but arranged it in a tall, crooked style inspired by the deformed Japanese plastic models that were popular in the 1980s.
