[Contents] The Skyline was released in 1957 as a core model of Prince Motor Company before it was absorbed into Nissan. The company has long been active in motor sports to showcase its technological capabilities, and one of the highlights of this was the existence of the GT, a competition car based on the second-generation Skyline.
The second-generation Skyline was a family sedan equipped with an economical 1.5-liter 4-cylinder engine, but in a bid to win the second Japan Grand Prix, Prince Motor Company produced around 100 GTs equipped with a powerful 2.0-liter 6-cylinder engine from their large luxury sedan, the Gloria, in a somewhat forcible manner, including by stretching the body, and obtained homologation.
Although the team took on the challenge of the 2nd Japan Grand Prix in perfect condition, they lost the victory to a privately-brought Porsche 904, but the rest of the rankings were dominated by Skyline GTs. Since then, the Skyline GT has become synonymous with high-performance sedans and is loved by car enthusiasts to this day.
Hot Wheels has recreated the car in a new mold, with a color scheme inspired by the #39 car driven by Yoshikazu Sunako, who finished second in the GT-II class behind a Porsche at the 2nd Japan Grand Prix.
